The Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is the “premier English-language test for admissions worldwide,” informs the test's developer, Educational Testing Service or ETS of New Jersey, USA. TOEFL is "the leading English-language test for study, immigration and work," adds ETS (www.ets.org/).

"TOEFL scores," ETS continues, "are accepted by more than 10,000 universities and other institutions in over 150 countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.K., the United States, and all across Europe and Asia."

 Two Test Formats

TOEFL is administered either as a TOEFL iBT (internet-based test) or TOEFL Paper-Delivered test. TOEFL iBT test sections include Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.

The TOEFL Paper-Delivered Test is administered only in areas without internet access. It took the place of the Paper-Based test "which was discontinued as of July 2017."

Test sections include Reading, Listening, and Writing. "There is no Speaking section," ETS notes, "because of the technical requirements." .

If you plan to take the test, and web access or internet connectivity is not a problem, the  TOEFL iBT test is for you.

There's a lot more information about the TOEFL in the ETS home page--www.ets.og/--but I will just zero in on some highlights with corresponding URLs for your convenience.

Test Taker's Preparation Resources: FREE!

ETS offers resources at reasonable prices.

But what I list here are the Free ones--which include a FREE Online course (Number 2 below)  administered by edX.

Some of these resources are designed for paper-delivered tests--but there should be no problem since ETS says that paper-delivered tests "are closely aligned to the TOEFL iBT test."
